Stevenson is American and comes from a Mexican-American background. Since she was a child, she's been very attracted to sports. Gerina began to play golf at the age of 15 years old. Gerina graduated from high school studies at Goddard High School. She was the winner of the New Mexico State Golf Tournament during her time in high school. She also had her volleyball skills recognized at the national scale. She went to the University of Texas in 2003. In her senior year she took home the top prize in every competition she entered. During her college career, she received her Conference USA Player of The Year Award as well as the UTEP Female Sports Athelete Award.
