Gerina went to Goddard High School for her high school education. While she was in high school, she won at the New Mexico state golf tournament. Also, she played volleyball at the national level. In the year 2003 she enrolled at the University of Texas. While in her senior years she took home the top prize in every competition which she participated in. In the course of her undergraduate studies she won the titles that included Conference USA Female Athlete and Conference USA Individual Player of the Year.
